In Review: My Favorite Daytime Dresses

Today at the Headquarters

Hello Everybody, I hope you enjoyed your long weekend doing something nice or maybe also doing nothing at all. Besides hanging out and eating I was looking at my outfits from the last year since I started documenting them here. Some I really like and repeatedly wore at work, and others I don’t like too much looking back. I find it so interesting to figure out what styles and shapes really make my figure stand out and also the contrary. In my last post I talked about how I dramatically elevated my looks through figuring out my body type. I believe knowing this now, I educated myself to be making better style decisions. A really good sales person can certainly help you picking out the right items , and so does your mom or best friend, but I think it is crucial to know yourself what looks best on you.

Today at the Headquarters I am evaluating my favorite dresses to see if they truly match my body type.

WHAT DRESS STYLES LOOK GREAT FOR MY FIGURE

My figure shape is somewhere between a pear and hourglass shape (figure out yours right here). My silhouette is characterized as slim shoulders and waistline and a wider hip and thighs. Basically pretty common as I heard, so welcome to my world of femininity. For my figure it is good to accentuate the shoulders and waistline to create a well proportioned body shape. At the same time you want to hide the hip area or let’s say not accentuate this part for thinner, elongated legs.

A-LINE OR WAISTED DRESSES ARE BEST FOR ME

 These dress types play up to my figure the best:

Dress styles that play up to my figure are shaped as (1) a-line,or accentuated in the waistline with a skirt part either (2) a-line shaped or (3) pleated. The slim version of the (4) waisted a-line dress (slim fit dress) still fits but should not be anywhere close to a bodycon dress.

That being figured out I took a closer look into my current wardrobe and picked out my favorite dresses.

{The A-Line Dress}

I love them for their style and instant cuteness. Adding the fact that they are super comfortable and beneficial for my figure they become one of my favorite dress styles for daywear. The striped dress is from Hallhuber and the dress with the flower prints is from H&M, similar in my shop.

{Waisted A-Line Dress}

My favorite dresses are those that accentuate the waistline, because they shape the female figure so nicely. Revealing your curves but not showing off too much through the loose skirt style. It is the type of dress you can bring from day to night time and also dress it up and down easily. This one is from Oasis, similar at Asos.

{Waisted Pleated Dress}

The waisted pleated dress is very similar to the a-line shape. It has more fabric to the skirt area and therefore an even more feminine character. Very lovely when wearing with a slim belt and a short jacket. The pleated skirt covers nicely thighs and behind and therefore is perfect for the office. This one is from the UK, similar at here.

{Slim Fit Dress}

I call this shape the slim fit dress for it’s waisted shape that stays close to your overall figure. This shape is great for a slim day at the office but rather a office party or after-work event. The dress I bought a Coast.

ONE FAVORITE DRESS DOES NOT WORK FOR ME ANYMORE

Looking at my figure shape and the correspondent dress styles helping me to stand out more, I realize that my previously beloved sheath dress style might not be ideal for me. The top part is great and I also love that is is waisted. However, the hemline of the skirt turns towards my legs causing the effect of a plum shaped lower body. As I already have this body shape by default, I don’t want to accentuate it to stand out even more. It is the Kim Kardashian look I am not embracing, especially not for the office :)

So, I must come to the realization that there is a thin line of dress styles that match the figure and those that don’t. Although the sheath dress will still look good, it won’t be as flattering as the a-line or pleated dresses I own.
